"If you love me, you will obey what I command." (John 14:15)
I already read this verse in the bible and I’ve been hearing it many times during church services. This verse means that you show your love to Christ by following Him. Yet it didn’t give me much effect until I read it in the book I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Joshua Harris. He explained that someone who feels love towards a person without expressing it through actions, that person’s feelings are meaningless. This means that loving someone is best shown through actions. Thus, loving God is obeying Him.
We can all say that we love God, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that we truly love Him unless we express it through obedience to His words. Like the saying goes,
"Action speaks louder than words."
How can anyone say that you love your mom if you always give her a hard time? Yes, sometimes, everyone is like that. But to do it frequently, what do you think that someone would conclude? How can you say that you love someone if everything you do displeases him/her? You see, if you love a person, you want to do everything to make him/her happy. Just like in Christ, we express our love by doing things that pleases Him. And that is through OBEDIENCE. Another verse with the same meaning as the mentioned verse is:
And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments; this is that commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it. (2 John 5:16)
Let us not only read our Bible or listen to every preaching in our church but also obey everything we learned from it. By doing so, we can not only please God but also, we are able to enter the path that leads us to the best future that He already prepared for us.
